My first attempt to use sculpey with collage.
My first attempt to use sculpey with collage.
This is the very first skate deck design that I have done. Having purchased a blank deck from the web, I was eager to customize it. First task was to paint it a smooth black, and put a few splashes of color. To stay true to the ongoing nature theme, I used a lot of photos of mushrooms, flowers, butterflies and ladybugs (most from flickr), with some hand drawn elements. Overall, I like how it has turned out and I will be working on the second one fairly soon. I have to admit, I’m not much of a skater myself, but hopefully some skater chicks would find this deck to their liking.
My two collage based iphone wallpapers got published on poolga.com. Check them out. I am very, very excited to be a part of talented poolga contributors. It’s an honor.
Work it… make it.. do it…makes us…harder, better, faster, stronger. This is a small homage to Daft Punk and their awesome music I have been listening to lately.
This is my second experiment with 3D collage, a fancy new name I coined to describe some of the work I’m doing these days. Since I’ve always had a fascination with cards, I decided to use Queen of Spades and King of Diamonds. King, however couldn’t quite work as well as the Queen, so I left him out of the picture. She’s alone, in the space where urban jungle and nature wage war.
A few days back, on my way back from the studio in Dumbo, I spotted yet another amazing stencil by C215, this time on the wall and the doorway. I absolutely love his work and now I’m starting to wonder if he lives somewhere in the area.
I recently came across some beautiful 3d pop-up book collage, which served as an inspiration for this piece. I have been struggling to get a bit more dimension in my work, and this does the trick. I arranged the elements against flat backgrounds, and taped them on top of one another to give an illusion of depth.
The idea for this collage was “around the world”. I tried to play with perspective a bit more. I used a lot of photos from flickr that had unusual angle and tried to rearrange them to follow a spiral path created by the stairway. I added a bit more color with balloons, and also to break up the composition.
For this piece I experimented with acrylics and collage. I tried to give the work a bit of depth by layering photos on top of each other. I really like how white elements pop in all the color.
Second collage from my new studio space.
